This
site is dedicated to the loving memory of Sean McDonald,
a gregarious, outgoing 11 year old boy with a zest
for life who tragically took his own life on May 26, 1999.
What
you are about to read is fact, it is our hope that by
sharing our loss we can help in some small way to stem
the tide of Preteen suicide. Sean is no longer with us
because his HMO chose to not believe him when he told
the therapist that he wanted to kill himself. This is
his story; we sincerely hope it will help parents everywhere
to be aware that preteens can and do take their own lives.
The preteen suicide rate is the fastest growing segment
of all suicide rates.
We
have started a scholarship fund in Sean's name called
the Society For Justice with the University of La Verne
College of Law located in La Verne, California. The purpose
of the Scholarship is to provide funds for deserving law
students. Support from the Society will help to educate
future lawyers who believe in the principles of Ethics,
Civility, and Community Service.
We
hope that by creating an awareness of Sean's case, and
showing it is possible to successfully sue the monolith
HMO, that we can inspire ULV Law Students to represent
others that have been victims of injustices such as the
one suffered by Sean and his family. To that end this
site is dedicated, we encourage you to join with us to
support the Society For Justice by making a contribution
in Sean's name to the Scholarship fund. The PayPal payment
link is setup by the University, and all contributions
go directly to them in Sean's name.
On
the following pages you will find photos of Sean living
life to the fullest, as any 10 year old should. You will
also read about the injustices he and his family suffered
at the hands of the very HMO they turned to for help when
they needed it.
You
will also find links to many different Suicide Prevention
sites, and information on the early signs of depression
and suicidal tendencies. We also invite you to take part
in our Forum and interact with other parents, suicide
survivors, or just lend your support and have your questions
answered.
